Breed Mentorship Program

Thank you for your interest in the Breed Mentorship Program. This program is designed for intellectually curious and purpose-driven undergraduates who seek to grow academically, vocationally, and ethically in a rigorous mentoring environment. Please read the following instructions carefully before submitting your application.

Application Components

You will be asked to submit the following documents as part of your application:

Statement of Purpose

Your Statement of Purpose should clearly articulate your academic interests, intellectual goals, and vocational aspirations. This should not be viewed as a test of perfection. It is simply a chance to reflect sincerely and thoughtfully on your journey, potential, and values. It should address the following:

  • What motivates your interest in joining the Breed Mentorship Program?
  • How have your academic, personal, or leadership experiences influenced your current trajectory?
  • What areas of scholarship or vocational development are you interested in exploring through this mentorship?
  • How do you hope to contribute to the Breed community, and how does this opportunity align with your vision for Africa’s future?
  • Include any future academic or vocational plans. For example, research interests, schools for graduate studies, vocational or professional plans, etc.

This is a core part of your application. We encourage you to take it seriously, as it helps us understand your readiness, fit, and potential. Use the following formatting instructions:

  • Length: It should not exceed 1,000 words
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point
  • Language: English

Writing Sample

Submit a short academic paper that demonstrates your potential to think critically and present a clear, coherent argument. This can be a previously written term paper or one written specifically for this application. This helps us evaluate your academic potential and ability to engage ideas at a deeper level.

  • Length: Maximum of 10 pages (double-spaced). Add a page for your bibliography, making a total of 11 pages max.
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point
  • Citations: Include a reference/bibliography page in either Chicago or APA style.
  • Language: English

Academic Transcript

Submit your most recent unofficial or official transcript from your university. This helps us understand your academic background and trajectory.

Recommendation Letter

Submit one recommendation letter from a faculty member who knows you well and can attest to your intellectual promise, character, and leadership potential.
